This incredible little bat was made by Yorkshire based silversmith and jeweller Charles Horner, and is a prime example of work from the intersection of the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau movements. Charles Horner was based in Halifax, Yorkshire and rose to prominence with a reinforced sewing thimble that he patented in 1884. His sons took over the business in 1896 and increasingly moved into more elaborate silver design with enamelling. The work of their studio was emblematic of the time, drawing in Art Nouveau style cues and natural influences.

The bat was one of Horner's iconic designs and is just to bright, detailed and fun. There has been some enamel loss to the tops of the wings and the chain displays a lovely patina befitting its age. Just a great statement piece!
