I don’t say it lightly - this is one of the best signets I have had to date.
Sharing a c. 1920 18ct and bloodstone signed ring depicting the crest for the Crosse family, a family whose ties to Northern England date to the 12th century.
Fairbarn’s 1905 Book of Crests reads: "Crosse of Crosse Hall, Liverpool, and Crosse Hall and Shaw Hill, Chorley, Lancs, a stork ppr., holding in its beak a cross botonnée arg."
Because of their tendency to return to their same partners and build large nests, storks came to represent strong family bonds and partnership.
Cool history aside, this ring is absolutely incredible on. I'm assuming it was a man's ring that may have been historically resized. The resulting ring is the perfect balance between ultra chunky and wearable. I am wearing it here on my ring finger. I am a size 5 for reference, but it is incredible on a pinkie. I love the way the gold setting frames the oblong bloodstone and sits low on the finger. Both the ring and the intaglio are pristine, ensuring a lifetime of wear for its next keeper.
