Elephant “fever” took hold in England with the arrival of Jumbo the elephant at the London Zoo in 1865, and continued into the 1900s, as circuses and travelling menageries brought elephants around the UK and the US.

This incredible little c. 1910 elephant would have been the height of fashion at its time. It is bright and chunky and has been very well cared for. The elephant is set in silver, with 9ct gold tusks and a 9ct bale, allowing it to blend seamlessly into gold chains. It is set all over with bright, white pastes and red cabochon eyes. The face is highly detailed and just so sweet.

The bale appears to be original to the piece, and the all over setting means that it looks beautiful from all angles.

I always love a good antique paste pet, and this one is a favourite!

Length: 19mm long, 15mm tall w/o bale, 18mm with bale

Materials: Silver, 9ct gold bale and tusks, paste. For those of you unfamiliar with paste, it is antique glass that has been cut and polished like a gemstone.

Condition: Very good antique condition
