One of the more unusual signets I have discovered, this c. 1910 piece features an (ahem…) very detailed bull on its face, with interior engraving that simply says “Peter.” I was told when I found this that it came from a prominent farming family in the south of England. What’s interesting here, is that it’s not the usual heraldic bull, but more of a agricultural portrait style (positioned to the side with the entire body shown). The 9ct stamp on the inside of the ring dates it to about 1910, but it will remain a mystery as to Peter’s connection with the bull on the ring. Love a bit of jewellery intrigue!
Wonderful bull aside, I love the proportions of this signet. It gives great finger coverage without being uncomfortably chunky. The gold is a warm, slightly rosy antique colour that’s so flattering on the skin.
