I rescued this little Edwardian aquamarine and 9ct spider from a bar brooch, and love the resulting pendant. The spider is highly detailed (love those pincers and the little articulated leg detailing). Its front legs are raised slightly, giving the impression that it is walking. The spider is set with a gorgeous aquamarine that is bright and fiery. The top of the body is set with a small pearl. I have added a large 6mm bale, so the pendant works over a chain or clipped into a dog clip.
Spiders were a popular motif throughout Victorian and Edwardian times, and symbolised patience and wisdom. Aquamarine is the traditional birthstone for March, and I’d say this would make a fantastic birthday gift!
