An ultra vibrant late 19th c convertible briar or dog rose pendant/brooch, set with old European and rose cut diamonds and circular cut demantoid garnets. The stones are mounted in silver topped 12ct gold.
The piece has both a pendant hook and detachable brooch fitting. I love having the optionality to wear the piece both ways - I find that I reach for brooches more in the winter when I can pin them to thicker jumpers, while summer is all about open necked tops and pendants.
Briar roses have long symbolised both beauty and thorny protection. In the Brothers Grimm version of sleeping beauty, the briar roses guard the tower, but do not bloom until true love is found. I love wearing something that is both very sweet and very thorny.
