There’s just nothing better than a perfectly worn in 18ct signet. This one bears an excellent patina from its 100-odd years. It is hefty, coming in at just under 10 grams, but the softened edges make it a dream to wear. As this was likely a man’s ring, the face is substantial enough to work on larger fingers. That said, it’s delicate enough that it could be worn on a smaller finger without anyone thinking that you stole your grandfather’s ring.

The crest features an open-barred, right facing helmet, signifying that the wearer would have been a peer, or member of the House of Lords. The position of the shield below the helmet is said to be accouche, or displayed in the way it would look hanging from its strap while on the wearer. The shield features a trio of what are likely ducks. As an aside, I just can’t help thinking they look every bit like tiny dinosaurs, which makes me love the ring that much more!

Whether birds or dinosaurs, I love connecting wearers with pieces that mean something, and I think this may be just the piece for a family of three (or the mother or father of three children, dogs, cats, ducks, dinosaurs, etc.).

The ring is fully hallmarked for London 1922 with a makers stamp for William Wilkinson Ltd.

All in all, a fun historic piece in excellent condition, that’s ready for its next hundred years of wear.
